Seeking funds to establish a rebar cutting and bending business was Mr Ronald Winston of Wall House. Having eight (8) years experience in this business, Mr Winston works with local contractors and on government projects. He has the option of either bending at his home or on the job. He specializes in the bending and cutting of rebar from sizes 1-5. In 2010, he was awarded NDFD's most unique client.
Mr. Lawrence, owner and manager of Lenvill's Hide Away minimart in Coulibistrie has been a client of the Foundation for over 15 years. When he decided to transform the downstairs of his home into a business place, he envisaged a mere grocery shop. To date, client has expanded the business into a minimart and sells a combination of dry foods, personal and household items. Mr. Lawrence has also benefited from a coaching program conducted by the NDFD. He expressed satisfaction stating, "The NDFD is a lifesaver for this business. I don't know where the NDFD gets funds but I wish that the Government or other Institutions provide more funding to the NDFD so that more small business owners can benefit from the NDFD". Mr. Lenti Lawrence is a true example of a successful entrepreneur.
A farmer who enjoys fishing. Mr Lewis first approached the Foundation in 2006 for funds for his rehabilitating his farm. After analyzing the profitability of the fishing industry he sourced funds to begin his own fishing operations.
He was successful enough to be named NDFD's fisherman of the year. He has serviced his loans easily and the NDFD is indeed pleased to be associated with such a success story.
Marcus Cuffy is an aspiring entrepreneur from the community of Grand Fond who sells painting to art galleries, local buyers, various business houses and Government Institution. He visited the office and was assisted in purchasing supplies for his business after successfully completing the Entrepreneurship Development Program of the Dominica Youth Business Trust.
Mr Cuffy business name is Zion Art Gallery and his aim is to provide superior Quality products at affordable competitive prices satisfying customers' expectation while utilizing the skills of local individuals and alleviating economic strains.
Mr Lee personifies entrepreneurship. He has taken the virtually unknown industry of cleaning and sanitizing equipment and turned it into a sustainable and successful business. He approached the Foundation in 2008 and today has expanded his services ranging from paper towels, to paper towel dispensers, sensible bags and other toiletries. Client operates from his home in Tarreau but he is involved in the distribution and installation of the product. Mr. Lee's products can be found in a number of local companies but he seeks to target other business places in the rural communities. Mr. Lee continues to improve his products. He commended the NDFD stating "A Foundation indeed that helps laid the corner stone to the growth and development of my Business". He has acquired training in record keeping and small business management. Mr. Lee is one of NDFD's budding business men.
Mr Blanc, a retired Agro-meteorologist from the Central Agricultural region is in all due respect a hard working and devoted farmer. Mr Blanc became a client of the Foundation in October 2007 when he requested assistance to construct a pig farm. To date, he has over 50 pigs and has employed two full time employees on the farm. Mr Blanc sells not only fresh meat but smoked meat to customers in the Belles, Jimmit and Roseau area as well as to local supermarkets. Client intends to export his produce to St Kitts. Mr Blanc received the award for the Most Outstanding Client of the National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) ltd in 2010.
Mrs Abraham first approached the NDFD in September of 1991 to purchase a sewing machine and to get involved in the sewing industry. Ms Abraham has since diversified her earning potential and has opened a grocery shop and bar. She has worked with the Foundation over the years further expanding of her shop, and participating in various training seminars. She continues to take records and perform all the necessary functions she learnt over the years from the NDFD in order to be a successful entrepreneur and small business owner.
Ms Abraham has accessed funds from the Foundation to improve her operations and she is a perfect example of a successful small business owner who has maintained her sustainability over the years.
Mr Stewart has been in the barbering business for the last thirteen years. He started off in one of the largest barber shop in St. Martin from there he returned to Dominica. He saw the opportunity to be an entrepreneur by opening his own shop and approached the foundation for financing for business development. Presently he serves the community of Portsmouth and environs.
Witnell Louis is a bonafide, prominent and full time farmer who has been farming for the past forty three (43) years. He became a client in 2009 where he requested assistance for the rehabilitation and expansion of his farm. He cultivates a wide variety of crops such as citrus, pineapples, dasheen, yams, oranges and Tania which he sells to the general public and various Caribbean Islands.
To date, he has expanded his farm and continues to be a client of the Foundation. He is indeed grateful to the Foundation and encourages the Foundation to keep on achieving its long term goals and continue to provide for growth of small business.
In September 1996, Mr Val Cuffy as he is called visited the office of the National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) Limited to establish a pharmacy is on Federation Drive, Goodwill. Today, 17 years later, Bulls Eye Pharmacy is one of the leading pharmacies island wide providing prescription and non-prescription drugs as well as dry goods and personal products to not only customers in the vicinity of Roseau but has extended its services to customers in the Picard, Portsmouth area. In 2010, he was awarded for the client who has created the most employment (Highest Job Creation).
The Coat Pot under the guidance of Avriel Boston is currently in the production of natural handmade soup. In 2002, the Coal Pot approached the Foundation for financial assistance and received funding from the NDFD and a complimentary grant from the EU under the Enterprise Development Facility. The funding enabled the company to improve their packaging, conduct regional market research, purchase raw materials and train some of the employees. S
ince receiving assistance, the Coal Pot has been able to export some of its products to other countries in the region and also at all major supermarkets on the island.
